This is the current Blanco County Courthouse in Johnson City, TX. I really appreciate they left the brick chimneys intact!

This is the former Blanco County courthouse in Blanco, TX. The current courthouse is in Johnson City, just to the north of Blanco. This building was the courthouse for only 5 years before county voters moved the county seat to Johnson City in 1890.

F.E. Ruffini designed many courthouses across the state. This building is a common style of his.

Notice the build date 1885 on the top of the building. The mansard roof was a signature of F.E. Ruffini.

This is the second story courtroom. The whole building is well-preserved.

Nice centerpiece on the ceiling of the courtroom. I’m not sure this is original.

This building is now a local community center. Years ago, it was in danger of being torn down after serving at times as school, hospital, bank, and even restaurant for the city of Blanco. The town rallied to save it and it’s worth a stop if you’re driving on US Highway 281.

This is the back of the building. Notice the fire exits.

Blanco County is in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.

If this fence post could talk…
