The city of Franklin in Robertson County is on the Texas Brazos Trail.

The amount of windows is amazing! This was a beautiful Texas February day.

Built in 1881-2, this is one of the older courthouses still standing and still in use in the whole state.

Designed by F.E. Ruffini, he was a prolific architect across Texas.

In 2011, the county added the back building annex. While I don’t like anything tacked on an original building, the additional building is well done and tasteful.

This is the back of the courthouse now.

The original county jail is also on the courthouse square. It was also designed by F.E. Ruffini. I don’t believe the porch was original to the design.

The wood floor appears to be restored original planks. There is no longer a courtroom upstairs in the original building.

The 1924 “reconstruction” consisted of removing the clock tower and mansard roof. Thankfully, in 2014 the county restored them to the building.

Also in Robertson County is the town of Calvert, where this little chocolate bakery is! This building was formerly a bank.

Unfortunately, it was closed and I couldn’t buy any chocolate!
