Goliad County – Goliad, TX

Goliad County is just southwest of Victoria County. This historic courthouse was built in 1894 and it architecturally similar to Caldwell County’s courthouse.

I visited Goliad several times to take these photos. The courthouse square is just off US Highway 59.

The Battle of Goliad happened on this prairie back on October 9, 1835. The rebellious Texians attacked the Mexican soldiers stationed at Presdio La Bahia. The Texians were unsuccessful, but the Battle of Goliad served to embolden Sam Houston and his freedom fighters in the Battle of San Jacinto.
